As the world is developing, a large number of population has moved to big cities from small towns and villages. Because life in a big city is much more comfortable than in villages and also offers more opportunities and facilities. This is why most of them who are still living in villages, are also thinking and looking for opportunities to move to the larger cities. Both city and village lives have their own advantages and disadvantages, as this is an essay on life in a big city, I will only discuss advantages and disadvantages of city life here.
"A great city is that which has the greatest men and women." (Walt Whitman)
Advantages and Disadvantages of City Life:
These are countless advantages and disadvantages of city life that can vary person to person as well but I will discuss only few of them below.
Advantages of City Life:
"If you would be know and not be known, live in a city" (Colton)
Medical Facilities:
Health is the primary concern of every human being and large cities have advanced and quality medical facilities available 24/7. All the other secondary things can be compromised but nobody can compromise on their health. This is something that cannot be predicted that when you will need medical attention, it can be middle of the night as well. So, if you are living in a village and you need medical attention at 2AM, there will be nothing around you but if you are living in a large city, there are hospitals which offer quality medical facilities 24/7. This is one of the biggest point of attraction for people in large cities.
Education:
After health, education is perhaps the top priority of everyone in this rapidly growing world where science and technology are completely dominating. It is very important to provide your children quality education whether its technical education or general education. There are numerous institutions in large cities which offer standard education. This is another big advantage of living in a big city.
Opportunities:
Large cities provide vast opportunities to every individual no matter what field they are specialized in. Big successful companies often exist and choose developed cities to expand their businesses, this opens a huge number of opportunities for people living in big cities.
Transport:
Cities have more developed transportation system than small towns and villages. Public and private transport is available 24/7 in big cities, people travel to their desired destinations whenever they want. Unlike in villages, where there is not such transportation system is available and people have to struggle a lot to travel to some other place.
Disadvantages of city life:
Although there are so many advantages of living in a big city, there are some disadvantages as well. Few of them are being discussed below:
Pollution:
Pollution is one of the biggest disadvantages of living in a large city. Huge factories and transport are the main cause of higher pollution in metropolis. Other than that, people also burn their waste material out side their houses that also contributes in polluting the overall environment and this leads to several health issues.
"Prevent air pollution, protect nature."
Business:
"A city that outdistances man’s walking powers is a trap for man." (Arnold Joseph Toynbee)
City life is much busy than village life, people often miss out so many events related to their personal lives while running after and chasing their professional goals. As cities are highly populated, people come across different kinds of persons everyday and if they feel that the other person is in a better position than them by any means, they try so hard to be even better than them. This creates a huge competition in developed cities, this is why people are never free, when they get something done, they move on to the next thing. They follow very strict routines, it makes so hard for them to get some free time and spend it with their beloved ones.
Conclusion:
Both city and villages lives have their own pros and cons and people make their choices according to their preferences.
